Casa String Quartet was formed in 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Drawing from a team of highly experienced and professional musicians, the quartet have a wealth of over 8 years experience in performance with private and corporate events, TV programmes, studio recordings, and concerts. They also have performed for the King, Queen, Sultans and other dignitaries.
Casa String Quartet combines the Classic elegance of a string quartet with a modern twist by performing classical and pop melodies from yesterday and today.
The musicians are members of groups including the National Symphony Orchestra, Radio Television Malaysia Orchestra, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall Orchestra. Individually, they have performed with Phantom of The Opera World Tour, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Concert, Miyakojima Music Festival Japan, Asean Russian Music Festival at Cambodia, Asian Youth Orchestra Asian Concert Tour, Nona Asiah Live in Esplanade Singapore, Kesuma Jiwa Concert Dayang Nurfaizah and Dato' Rizalman, Dato Siti Nurhaliza, Sean Ghazi, Dato' Jamal Abdillah, Anuar Zain, Afghan, Dato' Rossa and many more. They even have experience working with music directors such as Aubrey Suwito, Datuk Ramli MS, and Dato' Mokhzani Ismail.
Recently they have involved in performing and recording 2020 Malaysia Independence Theme Song called Malaysia Prihatin with music director Dato' Mokhzani Ismail and artist Ernie Zakri; recording movie soundtrack with artist Najwa Mahiaddin.
Yip Wyng Yeen ( 1st violin ),
born in Selangor. He started learning the violin at the age of 4. He has taken classes from musicians of various nationalities. He has achieved his LTCL Diploma from Trinity London in Violin Performing at the young age of 13.
After schooling and finishing his form 5, he has also performed with the Radio Television Malaysia Orchestra (RTM). He was also a member of the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) and member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO). He was lucky enough to have taken several masterclasses with international professional musicians.
He recently has also taken up learning the art and craft of violin making at the Ong Liutaio Workshop. He has also competed in several competitions, for example the Euroasia competition. Currently, Wyng Yeen is a tutti violinist for RTM Orchestra, a violin teacher and a sessionist for recordings and performances.
Izzywan Musib ( 2nd violin )
born in Johor Bahru, started learning to play the violin at the young age of 5. Under the tutelage of Mr Mohd Fuzi Bin Idris, Izzywan passed the ABRSM examination (Violin Grade 1-8) with distinction.
Admited in the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage ( ASWARA ) at the age of 18, he decided to pursue a professional music career and started learning the violin with reputed Malaysian teachers and performers such as Mr Azlan Othman. He recently graduated from ASWARA and obtained a Diploma Music in Music performance.
Izzywan is regularly invited to play for local orchestra such as Radio Television Malaysia Orchestra (RTM), Malaysian Youth Symphony Orchestra (MPYO), and the Malaysian National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), as well as performing on a regular basis as a freelance violinist all over Malaysia.
Izzywan’s eclectic musical experiences, combined with a strong motivation and serious work ethic make him one of Malaysia’s very promising violinist. Currently, Izzywan is a full-time violinist for National Symphony Orchestra as a 1st violin principal, a violin teacher and a sessionist for recordings and performances.
Umar Affzan Bin Anuar ( Viola )
started to learn guitar at age of 10 years old. In 2010, he continued his education in diploma music performance at the National Academy of Art, Culture & Heritage (ASWARA) and taking up Viola as the major instrument. Under the leadership of Mr. Yewhann Lau.
Among the achievements that he obtained for 3 years, he got a place in the Malaysian National Youth Orchestra and he was admitted in the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra ( MPYO ).
Umar has been involved with many performances such as string ensemble performance at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatoire, MPYO concert in Queensland. He was also involved in the successful concerts at Istana Budaya, KLpac, UKM, UUM, UM, Putrajaya and more.
Currently, he is a full-time violist for Kuala Lumpur City Hall Orchestra
( DBKL ) as a co-principal violist and a sessionist for recordings and performances.
Ershad Azalan ( Cello ),
started learning the cello at age 17 as a self-taught musician.
In 2008, he decided to pursue a diploma in Music Composition and taking up cello as major instrument at the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage
( ASWARA ) in Kuala Lumpur. In 2009, after making progress with his first teacher, Chia E Man ( Malaysia National Symphony Orchestra cellist ), he was admitted in the Malaysian National Youth Orchestra.
During his studies, Ershad had the opportunity to interact with the most knowledgable musicians and furthered his cello studies with Nasran Nawi
( principal cellist at the NSO ) and Elizabeth Tan ( cellist at Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra ). In 2012, he was admitted in the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra ( MPYO ).
Ershad has taken parts in lot of performances and recordings such as the New World MPO & NSO concert, MPYO concerts, Perak Philharmonic Orchestra ( PPO ) concerts, University Malaya orchestra ( UM ) & University Kebangsaan Malaysia ( UKM ) concerts, TV3 & Astro programmes.
Currently, Ershad works as a full-time cellist at National Symphony Orchestra, part-time tutor at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris ( UPSI ) and a sessionist for recordings and performances.
